When the leaders of NuSpatial were first introduced to IgniteHQ we had already established dedicated offices in both Kennesaw, GA and Huntsville, AL. Our leadership team was in place and our flagship product, a mobile backpack laser scanner used for indoor architectural mapping, had been invented. But all accounts, our startup was on track to be a successful company, but after meeting with the team at IgniteHQ we knew becoming part of this tech incubator would boost us to the next level.
NuSpatial focuses on creating technology based solutions for the architectural, engineering and construction markets with a focus on architectural indoor mapping. We are not only a tech company inventing new product, but a service based company revolutionizing an industry. Our mobile backpack laser scanner allows our staff of architects and designers to draft architectural drawings and models accurately, efficiently and effectively.
Kennesaw is the home of our Sales and Operations teams where all services are centrally located (our robotics engineering development team operates out of our Huntsville location). We had previously considered joining one of Atlanta’s intown incubators, but the locations were not favorable and, honestly, we felt they just didn’t represent the essence of NuSpatial.
Our core customer base is comprised of architecture firms, interior design groups, building owners, and general contractors. Our unique technology, when paired with our trained field technicians, saves our customers a significant amount of time and money when no architectural plans are available or when plans need to be updated.
We turned to IgniteHQ for its strong ties to Kennesaw State University as well as local community, businesses and government leaders. We knew these connections would be essential to our growth, customer base development, and long term plans.
Today, NuSpatial is growing and succeeding in part from the development fostered through IgniteHQ.
Through IgniteHQ, we have grown our relationship with Kennesaw State University by not only performing multiple projects for the University’s campus expansion plan, but by gaining access to a pool of talented engineers. NuSpatial has even hired recent graduates for our engineering team. We have also built a relationship with the University System of Georgia as a direct result which we hope will pay dividends for many years to come.
IgniteHQ has also acted as an enthusiastic marketing tool for NuSpatial. Through the connections made by IgniteHQ, NuSpatial has managed to partner with local commercial real estate brokers and building owners as well as the City of Kennesaw. We never expected this new found traction in customers outside our core target market. IgniteHQ not only taught us of new possibilities, but delivered on them!
IgniteHQ’s quiet offices and shared workspaces have provided me with a professional setting to hold meetings and breakout sessions as well as a sanctuary when I need to focus on critical tasks away from the interruptions from the normal work day.
Being a serial entrepreneur and a part of several startups, I recognize that having access to a community of fellow entrepreneurs who reside outside my core business is just as beneficial as an investor or consultant. They are a sounding board for ideas and challenges and will also bring a different perspective to a problem or solution. They have already been through some of the struggles you will face from growth or employees, and can really prevent a lot of headaches in the future if you are willing to share and bounce ideas.
One of IgniteHQ’s core strengths is attracting and scheduling top performing individuals and companies for their CEO Office Hours and partner seminars. The rich experiences and lessons shared by successful business professionals are far more valuable than the small membership fee. The professionals that present are very accessible during and after presentations and are there to encourage success with little to no self-promotion. I have implemented several lessons learned in these seminars into my everyday workflow as well as managerial style.
As luck would have it, NuSpatial was recently able to partner with IgniteHQ to provide architectural modeling of its soon to be new headquarters located on the Marietta Square! When the IgniteHQ staff settled on the Waddell Street location they quickly realized blueprints and plans of the interior space were nowhere to be found, a very typical scenario when buildings change ownership. As a result, the renovation schedule, design concepts, and permitting had to come to a complete stop until plans could be created and shared with all parties involved. NuSpatial collected important reflective ceiling data and scanned the entire layout of the main level and basement on a Friday afternoon and started creating a 3D Revit architectural model the following Monday that was delivered one week later. As a comparison, to create the same 3D model would have taken many firms up to 4 weeks at an expense 25-40% greater.
In partnership with IgniteHQ, we were also able to use their new office with its unique layout and ceiling detail to beta test our new 3D mobile scanner we are launching later this year. While this specific use is very unique to our technology, IgniteHQ has been a great partner for testing and further improving our technology and methods as it relates to our business. For us, having access to facilities and customer feedback that IgniteHQ provides is invaluable!
Outside of our current mobile laser scanning backpack, we have been working on several other technologies centered around the use of indoor mapping data. Over the next few years we plan to release new products and services that will be tested thoroughly and validated at the IgniteHQ facilities. We at NuSpatial are excited to see what the future holds for us and IgniteHQ!
