The Top 5 Traits for Successful Entrepreneurs

June 15, 2017 by IgniteHQ Leave a Comment

Successful entrepreneurs seem to have superpowers that they use to achieve success. Intentionality and hard work driven by passion are typically behind an entrepreneur’s success. There are five core traits that drive successful entrepreneurs to great heights. These traits guide them individually, and they have a positive impact on the entire organization.

Entrepreneurs Have Passion

Work doesn’t feel like work to entrepreneurs who are driven by a passion. The industry or line of work doesn’t matter either. Successful entrepreneurs love what they do. Behind their passion is the answer to their big why. To many people’s surprise, successful entrepreneurs’ big why typically doesn’t begin and end with money. They have passion for a greater good that their product or service serves. Their big why, their passion is bigger than them.

Entrepreneurs Don’t Fear Failure

Serial entrepreneurs like Elon Musk failed time after time before achieving success. The world sees the success but they don’t see all the sweat and tears in the background. Successful entrepreneurs take calculated risks. They pursue their dreams. They thrive when challenged, especially when the outlook is grim. Let this encourage you. Because if you quit after your first (or second) failure, there’s a good chance that you will never see the fruits of your hard work.

Entrepreneurs Never Stop Learning

Learning doesn’t stop after high school or college. Learning doesn’t stop after you’ve reached the highest rank in your organization. Successful entrepreneurs know that they don’t know everything. Knowledge is inexhaustible. Entrepreneurs don’t stop at picking up new head knowledge. Successful entrepreneurs quickly apply what they learn to their business. And once again, they don’t fear messing up because failure is simply part of the learning process.

Why is learning important? Industries constantly evolve. Learning keeps entrepreneurs from getting stuck in old ways of thinking and operating. Learning helps you stay abreast of what works and what doesn’t. Humanly speaking, knowledge wisely applied leads to successful outcomes.

How do successful entrepreneurs learn? Here’s a short list of sources of knowledge for entrepreneurs:

  •      Fellow team members
  •      Coaches/mentors
  •      Books (don’t forget audiobooks)
  •      Online courses and webinars
  •      Conferences and focus groups
  •      Think tanks/mastermind groups

Entrepreneurs Value Teamwork

Typically, the size of a workforce grows as a business grows. Successful entrepreneurs value their team. They build a family-like culture that shares ideas, encourages each other, and works hard together to achieve excellence.

This applies to solo entrepreneurs too. You should value your vendors, contractors, interns, and strategic partners as your team. After all, you can all go further together.

Entrepreneurs Thrive in Early (or Late) Hours

Productive entrepreneurs rise and shine. Some entrepreneurs prefer the late night grind. If you want any level of success, you will work while most people are asleep. Sticking to a strict sleep schedule takes a lot of discipline. It also takes sacrifice. You will have to forego the late night parties with your friends. And you can’t sleep through your early morning alarm. Remember that you can’t be a light night person and an early morning person. You must get sleep in order to be productive and avoid burnout.

Plan your productive days around proper rest. Exercise and a healthy diet help as well. Some successful entrepreneurs choose to wake up early to workout, which gives them energy for the rest of the day. Healthy eating habits give you energy and generally help you remain in the game for increased productivity.

Entrepreneurship is not an easy calling. Consider these traits and determine if you need to embrace them for your organization’s success.
